Press conference of TV Tokyo drama SP "Musume no Kekkon"

The press conference of new TV Tokyo drama SP "Musume no Kekkon" was held at the TV station's HQ in Roppongi, Tokyo, on 5 January which was attended by the cast members Nakai Kiichi, Haru and Mitsushima Shinnosuke. The drama SP will be shown at 8pm on 8 January.

The story is based on the same-titled novel by Shouji Yukiya where Nakai plays the lead character Kunieda Takahiko who raised his daughter Miki (Haru) singlehandedly after his wife Yoshimi (Okunuki Kaoru) passed away. When Miki tells her father that there is someone she would like him to meet, Takahiko tries to avoid this meeting for some reason. The man who Miki wants to let Takahiko meet is actually her fiance Shin (Mitsushima) who was her childhood friend and is the son of their former neighbours Furuichi Toshiyuki (Mitsuishi Ken) and Keiko (Kimura Midoriko). The issue is, Keiko is a well-known troublemaker in the neighbourhood and seemed to have some disagreement with Yoshimi in the past so Takahiko is troubled over how to tell Miki about it. Just then, Takahiko meets his ex-girlfriend Kataoka Ayano (Harada Mieko) back in university by chance and discovers an unexpected connection with her as he grapples with the reality of his daughter's impending marriage.

Nakai commented jokingly that he's finally at this stage where he gets to play a father to a daughter of Haru's age. He then revealed that he met her by chance at Shin Osaka Station after they last worked in the 2015 movie "Again" (filming was done in 2013) and before she started filming for the NHK morning drama "Asa ga kita" that year. He was shocked to see a woman charging towards him at high speed while wearing a hat and only realised that it was Haru when she greeted him. He had offered his best wishes to her for the morning drama filming. Through their interaction this time in this drama, he saw how much she had grown as an actress since they last worked together and was very impressed with her. Haru followed up by saying that she was travelling between Tokyo and Osaka at that time for the filming preparations and saw Nakai first so she went to talk to him. She also expressed her joy to be able to play Nakai's daughter this time.

Haru said that although she is at the age when it's natural to get married, she cannot picture herself doing that. In addition, she didn't think that marriage is something which people can work towards to but she felt that a natural progression with the person beside her was her idea of what it means to get married.

As for Mitsushima, he was very glad to be able to work with Nakai for the first time although it had been some time since they ended their filming in October. He described his character as someone who treats everything with the utmost sincerity and hoped that he would become someone like that in time to come. Nakai then teased Mitsushima for being a very reliable guy as he can even drain a pond of its water which was with reference to the latter's appearance in the popular TV Tokyo irregular variety show "Ike no mizu zenbu nuku" which had a recent New Year SP shown on 2 January.

Haru who described herself as someone being very shy in front of strangers, said that she was relieved to work with Nakai and Mitsushima this time since she had worked with them before. Especially since she finds it difficult to look at people in their eyes when talking, she would usually look at their necks if she is talking to people she is meeting for the first time. Nakai then chipped in to echo that while Mitsushima said that although he's shy like Haru, he tends to take the initiative to approach others so as to enter their personal spaces. This made Haru say that he's quite scary in that sense and Mitsushima "reflected jokingly" on his behaviour as that of an alien who has to live like that or else he will be eliminated.
